Disclosure: I was provided with a set of Philips Sound ActionFit Headphones in order to complete this post. All opinions are my own.
I’m a runner. Anyone who knows me knows this fact.
And a big part of why a run? Outside of the fact that it allows me to maintain my sanity as well as my torrid love affair with starchy carbohydrates?
Is the simplicity of it.
All I need is my shoes and something I can sweat in…
And I’m on my way. Simple as that.
No equipment…No paraphernalia…no muss, no fuss.
I’ve always taken a good deal of pride in the simplicity of it all and turned up my nose juuuust a teensy bit at those who go to gyms and classes with a bag full of gear in tow…or even those runners who head out with headphones and heart rate monitors around their arms and fannypacks full of snacks and watches that could detonate small bombs.
Seriously? Keep it simple! Be one with nature and just appreciate what’s around you!
So it ended up being quite serendipitous that Phillips Sound contacted me, asking me to give their ActionFit headphones a trial run, so to speak.
Me? One with Nature Girl? Keep it Simple Sue?
But I did.
And I’m so very glad. Because, friends?
They are simple.
They have this adjustable, over-the-ear design that ensures a perfect fit, no matter your size.
The sound is incredible. I had always been somewhat leery of running with music for fear that it would completely block out the sound around me and create a running hazard.
Not so…not so at all. I enjoyed my Robin Thicke…whilst in the thick of a busy intersection…and had no safety concerns whatsoever.
And, friends? These headphones are waterproof. So even if you sweat like a banshee like I do I’ve heard some unfortunate souls do, no worries. Rinse those babies off? And you’re good to go.
And on a personal note, I’ve found that having music along makes me a better runner…more conistsent strides, better breathing technique, and motivation to go an extra mile or two.
So I suppose that you could say that Philips has converted me. Want to join the movement?
Or simply upgrade from your existing sound conditions?

Depends on where I am. If I am at the gym, yes…I love to have music. Outside, I’m concerned about being able to hear what goes on around me so no. I’m curious about your comment that you had a fear headphones would block out sound around you but said it wasn’t so with these. So you can hear what is going on outside as well?! That would be very nice!
I was really surprised, MIchelle…they didn’t block out the world as I had thought they would. Win-win!
I have headphones similar to these for running but they ARE NOT waterproof!!! OMG that is frickin genius!!! I sweat like a man when I run and the thought of being able to rinse these puppies off afterward is making me giddy. It doesn’t take much…
I know, right? It’s the little things. Literally.
I do listen to music when I am at the gym. I hate my current head phones, when I get sweaty they fall out of my ears. When I put them back in they just don’t sound right. I would love to win these!
That’s why the over-the-ear thing is so cool. Good luck, Heather!
Most of the time. If I’m at the gym on the elliptical, I’m the weirdo reading a book.
I don’t know how you can do that, Kerry…it makes me seasick to read & exercise!
yes, it gets me in a groove.
I still can’t believe that I’ve been running for more than 20 years and JUST discovered the fun of music while exercising, Curtis. Better late than never, right?
I exercise normally, but LOATH running…with a passion! I’m one of those “people” you turn your nose up but all I carry with me are my keys and a bottle of water when I go do Zumba…LOL! I think it’s becasue I work from home and I feel like I need to be with people because I’m such a freakin extrovert and love to dance. This way I feel like I’m going to the club and getting my groove on. haha
I’ve always secretly wanted to try Zumba, Alisha…I’ve heard it’s a hoot!
I run with music when I can FIND my headphones.
Psssst…I keep mine, along with my Shuffle, in my jewelry box. Don’t tell the thieves…umm…Cherubs.
Yes, I exercise while listening to music. Music is a huge motivator for me.
Me, too…now that I’ve got the right gear. Good luck, Elizabeth!
No, my over-the- head headphones are too havy and unstable!
And that is ex-ACT-ly why you need these!
i would love to
I HAVE to have music. I just can’t get into it without, even if I’m just doing light weights.
I can’t believe what a difference it makes, Leigh Ann…now those longer runs don’t seem qute so daunting.
Perfect for my listening pleasure.
Yep…good luck, Derrick!
I HAVE to listen to music unless I’m doing a super long run with a buddy. I love how certain songs on my running list can pump me up when I’m about to hit that wall!
I know, right? Creating the perfect exercise playlist is seriously an art form.
When running I always have to have music. It helps me pace myself.
Absolutely, Elizabeth!
I love listening to music and podcasts when I’m exercising. Otherwise my thoughts wander too much. I’m doing Zombies 5k right now and it really makes the training fun. I usually can’t wear earbud style headphones so I’d like to give these a try.
Ooooh…I’ve always wanted to do a Zombie 5K! I’m a Warrior Dash-er myself.
I exercise / walk with music, because it puts you in a zone, & you don’t realize how hard you’re working, until you’re finished!
I agree, Kiera…another fun fringe benefit of adding music to a workout.
I usually do yoga or exercise videos so usually no music except what’s already in the background. I listen to music at work though!
These headphones would be great at work as well!
Who said I normally exercise?
Ha! Touche’!
I always have music in my ears when I exercise. It makes the time go quicker and you think more about the songs than how hard the workout is. Also love to listen when I’m out walking my shelter dog Tigger. Thanks for the offer.
Agreed, Ron. Good luck!
I really don’t have time to exercise, or i’m not in the mood, but when i have the opportunity i play football outside and the only music there is on the field is the screaming of guys getting angry:-)
Then you need to chill out after all of that craziness with some stellar tunes.
musuc makes me more focused, and everything goes easier
I do always. When I exercise that is. Need to do more of both – listen to music and exercise..
Isn’t THAT the truth.
I do group fitness classes so there is music. If I exercise by myself I find music helps keep a better tempo
